Apparently this song was first released on OneRepublic's album Waking Up in November 2009, but it's been on mainstream radio pretty recently this year.

It won't blow you away, but the song has more power than many of its peers on the airwaves. And this isn't a love song, which is a pleasant surprise. Instead, it expresses the speaker's disappointment with the superficial, weightless pop music of today. The speaker even proposes his own small solution to this mess: "Tell me what you want to hear/ I need something that'll light those ears/ I'm sick of all the insincere/ So I'm gonna give all my secrets away". Too bad there probably won't be such a song that discloses all these secrets. But for now, we can plug in our earbuds and sink into Secrets' rich sounds, and ponder over its message.

Ingrid Michaelson is an indie-pop singer based in New York City. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingrid_Michaelson, "The Way I Am" is her most famous song.

The song is unique because most of the songs that you hear on popular radio stations now are about being careless. They describe a world in which you couldn't expect anything, whether it's a night of drunken partying or a relationship, to last. And with this song, Ingrid saves the day. She reminds us that things can last: "I'll buy you Rogaine when you start losing all your hair / I'll sew on patches to all you tear". Even though it doesn't appeal to the mass media like what's on the radio, "The Way I Am" is still worth a listen.

Since this is the first post, I'll give you an FAQ-type thing so you can know more about this blog. Starting now:

Q: What is Soundbites?

A: Soundbites is dedicated to serving up little bites of info on today's music.

Q: How can I use Soundbites?

A: If you want to see a review of a song you heard somewhere, or get recommendations on stuff to get from iTunes, or even read an observation on what a radio station is airing (I might post something like that from time to time), Soundbites is the site to see. You can even suggest a song for me to review by commenting under my latest post. I'll check my comments so I'll see it.

Q: Why is the blog named "Soundbites"?

A: You can take the meaning of "soundbites" 2 different ways:

1. bits of sound. (or in this case, bits on sound)

2. sound bites. What kind of sound can bite? What kind of sound gives you feelings? Oh yeah, music. :)
